This coin was minted in Macedon under Roman rule, where the Macedonians maintained a certain degree of autonomy.
Macedon, Roman Protectorate. 167-149 BC. Silver tetradrachm. Obverse: Macedonian shield with bust of Artemis. Reverse: Club of Heracles within oak wreath and thunderbolt. MAKEDON / PROTES in Greek. The softly textured 22kt yellow gold coin frame has a lovely contrast to the silver coin.
